I think it is very important to show what goes on behind those walls and bars. If you guys didnt do what you do the Corrections Departments of our Country would have the walls and bars to hide behind and could do anything much like what happened in IRAQ. In the end it all came out but look what happened to the inmates before the story was broke.

    Thanks Again!

Just out of curiousity, how is it determined which facilities are featured? I'd be interested in seeing a Lockup of a full supermax like an ADX Florence (the Federal Supermax) or a Tamms (Illinois).

Alternatively, I'd like to see a Lockup: Attica, focused in part on how the prison has recovered from the 1971 prison riot where 39 people were killed.

If you want to know what really goes on behind the bars get to know an inmate! you can go to prisontalk.com and hear what the family and friends of real inmates talk about. They DO NOT show the real story on TV!!! Some of the rules are ridiculous, and it's just like in the free world, if you have $ or drugs, or a skanky woman you can get a lot of what you want, whether from guards or other inmates. Or if the guards just like you, especially the opposite sex guards!!! I have learned lots just from writing them and reading the website. I also have a nephew in. He gets tons of bad girls to send him nude pics, nasty letters and he sells the pics for $30-$40 each! they have to cover the 3 important spots now, so I don't know what he gets. He gets sex calls, too. They also "pimp their woman". When their "girlfriend" sends him nasty pics he shows them to other guys so they will be his friend or get something from them like food or protection. So if you think your boyfriend/husband is the only one masturbating to your pic, you got another think comin'!!! And they are probably doing the same with lots of other girls who are writing him and think THEY are his girlfriend! It also just makes them look good to other inmates and of course feeds their ego.And it's so boring in there they like VARIETY, one inmate told me. So it's highly unlikely a girl would ever be the only one. That may not be true if you are married or dating when he goes in, but it happens even then. Lots of girls go to visit boyfriend/husband and there's some skank there visiting. They had everything taken away when they went in. Sex is the thing guys like most. So they try to get as much as they can in the ways they can. Not all want booze, drugs, or even $, but almost every single one wants sex. So they basically turn you into a "PlayBoy" ho. Only you don't get paid for it!!!! Better to watch and enjoy the shows, take it with a grain of salt, and NEVER write anyone!!! Unless of course you are one of those bad girls and enjoy giving strangers hard ons, and having them think gross sexual things about you while they masturbate!

Gotta be honest - you sound really ignorant.  You have a very twisted view of prison life if you are getting your information from Prisontalk.  Really.  All of those women are sad pathetic women with low self esteem who think its cool to write inmates.

Inmates don't have sex with guards - often.  It happens, but its rare.  You sound like you are one of those MWI's who waited (cough cough) faithfully for some convict you never met, sent him money and pictures and anything else he may have wanted.  He was your fiance - then you figured out that you were just a mark.  What do you expect?  YOU WROTE A CONVICT YOU NEVER MET.  Seriously - how hard is it to find a guy on the streets?

Met While Incarcerated.  Those women who seek out inmates through shows like this and penpal ads, and the like, and enter into romantic relationships with them.

I find it very very puzzling.

Inmates Wife, finding MWI "puzzling" is a whole lot nicer than calling the people who reach out on Prisontalk.com "ignorant". Most people who find someone they love inside wire for the first time are "ignorant" to what this life is like. I too an inmates wife, trying my hardest to hold on and I've known my inmate from the "outside" in, since 1968. Perhaps someone new to this can benefit from what we "old timers" have to offer on forums such as Prisontalk. It is certain, the Departments of Correction around the US could give not one crap about the families trying desperately to provide HOPE and a reason for an inmate to change. Every sociological study about the love/support of family members for the inmate population has shown exceptional benefits for all concerned. As for these penpal relationships, you CHOSE to stay with your inmate, through thick or thin. (Despite the objections all the people who love YOU made) Finding love behind wire, saves, changes lives. Who are you to judge how that love comes about?

ELISE:  Every time I hear a Lockup interviewer ask an inmate or a corrections official a question from off camera it's a woman's voice. Every time a Lockup producer is commenting on camera it's a man--Drachkovitch or Field, for example. What's going on? Any reason why the women on the Lockup staff won't show their faces? It just seems so strange I thought I would ask.  Apropos: am I correct in assuming that you have chosen women  to go ino the prison depths and interview these men  because you realize that a heterosexually deprived and lonely man is going to be so grateful for a few moments of  attention from a woman [from the outside] he will be much more likely to open up and talk to her than to another male? Makes perfect sense to me. I hope it's appropriate in this forum to ask questions like these, about the show itself, the staff, rather than just commenting or asking about the prison issues the show raises.   Thanks.

Sorry, I'm not ignorant or pathetic. Not EVERYONE on prisontalk is either. There are girlfriends/wives on there who were that BEFORE the guy went in.There are also Mothers on there. I had a friendship with one. I also have a nephew who got 18yrs.. So I do know some of went on. I wrote an inmate for a yr.. It wasn't some oooooooooooooooo he's cute thing! I even talked to his mother. I checked out his case on the internet. I got to know as much as I could. I only wrote a few others and none of them were romantic at all!!! I never sent any inmate money, and I've never had one ask! The ones I wrote asked for a pic and I sent a regular pic, NO NUDITY, one like in the family album, so they could see whom they were talking to. NONE ever asked for nasty pics. The reason I got hurt was because he wrote to a party girl who wrote him. So basically, he cheated on me. And guess what? Every guy out here in the free world has, too! So it wasn't a "prison" thing. My guy sent me $ to put on the phone! Not to mention little gifts that he made or bought. There was no reason to think he was like my nephew who gets $, nasty letters that he sells or nasty pics he sold for $30 to $40 when they were allowed to be all nude. Now they have to cover the 3 spots. I'm not that stupid or naive, and also not that bad! My own husband(ex. 30 yrs. ago) didn't have nude pics of me. At my age NO ONE would want a nude pic of me!!!! Not even a hard up inmate who had been in for 60 yrs. at the age of 15!!! Not all inmates are liars and fakers and not all people who write are hard up, ignorant  or stupid. You can find out a lot of info on prisontalk. The other girl/boy friends/spouses, family will explain hoe things are at your loved one's prison, like mail, calls, visiting, rules. If you don't hear from him for awhile you'll hear from a loved one that they are locked down, or something, so you don't worry. You can talk privately with someone if you would like to make a friend. They will offer advice, take it or leave it, and info and support. Just like everything else, there's good and bad! There's a couple who met while SHE was in. They married while she was in. She got out, they had a baby and last I heard they were still together. There are married guys who went in and 20 some years later they are still with their same wife, and a lot of them visit every weekend. It IS rare, but possible. I've seen a male  inside, who married ,and is still with her on the outside, too. It DOES happen. Inmates can also send a copy of their phone and visitor's list if they want. Then you can know what they are doing a little more. It basically boils down to trust. And it's the SAME on the outside! I'd rather a guy in there cheated because he at least ain't having sex with her, only his hand. Of course, I'd rather they didn't cheat at all. One thing I did send my gut was Christian material, and 3 USED books about how to be a good man and now one about how your childhood has affected you and what to do about it. I offer good things and hope it brings him laughter, happiness, wisdom, and change. I am still his friend, but expect nothing more. I don't want to totally desert him like everyone else. None of them will get any better if no one helps them in a good way.

Yes, they do think the men will talk more to a woman!! Unfortunately it causes the men to get in trouble for masturbating. You lock a guy up for years, take away his booze, drugs, sex, family, cigarettes, fun, etc. then send some woman in there, whether it's a guard, Dr., nurse, media, teacher, pastor, counselor,or whatever, and then expect the men not to look, like, get turned on and not masturbate!!! Get real!!! That will never happen in this world, unfortunately. Then when the guy does it, he gets in trouble, even if he IS NOT doing it in front of her, just TRYING to do it in private and someone happens to see. Solution, male employees, volunteers, etc. in male prisons and vice versa!!! DUH!!! There would be less trouble, no favoritism, escapes, babies, etc.! At least not on the scale it is now. Lots of women LIKE to be eye candy, masturbation material, a piece of meat. If not the porno industry would be non-existent, and most TV shows and singers!

Ya learnedthehardway lets keeping making excuses for these men. I am a female working in a mans prison and for the record have ne desire to be eye candy or masturbation material. The majority of females working in male prisons are there because they need a job. nothing else. In our eyes these are convicted criminals and need to be taught manners and respect. If a man masturbated in front of someone on the outside he would be arrested but in prison we should turn our heads? these men are there for a reason if they dont like their booze sex family etc.. taken away then maybe they should become law abiding citizens and keep themselves out of prison! The problem here is bleeding hearts making excuses for nasty people not females trying to earn an honest living

Maybe they don't want people to think they are like what I said? Maybe people would be wondering why they go in and why in the world they are allowed. For the same above reasons. Or they use the women to get the men to talk. If a guy with no female for years to write, call or visit has a chance to go talk to one, boy is he gonna go. And he will sit and talk as long as he can just to get to look at a female. I'm old and they could be 21 and still want to sit and talk to me! lol So it all depends on what the women look like and how they are dressed. If their clothes are tight and revealing, they are using their body to get them to talk and probably like it. If they are dressed lady like they are either doing it as a job, or just sort of using a female to get them to talk. I know from 3 inmates they didn't like the one woman and said she went to all the young guys who just wanted to be on TV, and would get them to tell stuff they shouldn't be telling. Maybe they're camera shy! lol
